The unusual Bali, unspoiled places in the island of Gods

When we heard about Bali for the first time, I was really interested in learning more about this amazing island in the middle of Indonesia.

Every island is very different from the others, but Bali has a completely unique character. It’s almost impossible to compare it to the others; in fact, it is the only Hindu-majority province in Indonesia.

Nearly 87% of the population follows Balinese Hinduism, which is why it is called the Island of Gods.

There are temples everywhere you go, but unfortunately, only a minority of them are open to tourists.

Jalan sok wayah, Ubud

The first time we landed in Bali, to be honest, I was not very happy.

When we left Denpasar, we were immediately surrounded by thousands of taxi drivers trying to offer the best ride. We hopped into our Grab (highly recommended), and after giving the address of our guesthouse, we got stuck in the insane traffic outside the airport. What should have been an hour-long journey took about two and a half hours instead, and I was furious.

We quickly learned that the best way to explore the island would be on two wheels.

Overtourism in Bali is very high, especially during peak season, but fortunately, the crowded places are concentrated in the south of the island, leaving plenty of opportunities for people to have unforgettable experiences elsewhere.

After our second time in Bali, here are our favorite things to do.

If you wish to spend few hours and get involved in a balinese village experiencing traditional farming,

i will definitely suggest this sustainable semi social activity in Tabanan, where a local people called ‘Ketut’ will drive you back in time, with all activities involved in a traditional balinese village life.

Pura Gunung Kawi Sebatu (Hindu temple)

Pura Gungun Kawi Sebatu, is one of our favourite Hindu temple in Bali. Is a holy water temple similar to Pura tirta Empul, but much less crowded.

Is a hidden Gem in Sebatu, not too far from Pura Tirta Empul, where you will find peace and tranquillity.

Vihara Dharma Giri (Buddhist temple)

Vihara Dharma Giri is a Buddhist temple out from the majority of people’s itineraries because is a bit far from all others, you will need to drive all the way to Papuan, on the north west of the island.

The temple has a Beautiful reclining Buddha statue, with free entrance (you can donate), is peaceful and so well maintained.

Sunset at Pantai Bonian

A desert beach on the west coast close to Selemadeg.

Jalan sok wayah, Secret Ubud

Ubud is of the most overcrowded places in entire island of Bali, sometimes I hate driving also a scooter in Ubud, but there is a hidden peaceful place that we love particularly.

The street of Jalan sok Wayah is a tiny street that crossing the most beautiful rice fields and best hidden guesthouses around Ubud, where you can walk peacefully at sunset time.
